Buy a complete skateboard or assemble a skateboard yourself?

Experienced skaters usually assemble their own skateboard. Skate parts wear out. Once you have a complete skateboard set, you can simply buy individual parts and have them replaced. Beginning skaters may be better off with a complete skateboard. These boards are pre-assembled by the factory and have everything you need to get started right away. These complete skateboards are also more affordable for a beginning skateboarder.

What size skateboard deck do I need?

Your skateboard size depends on a few physical characteristics, your personal preference and your skating style. For example, an old school skateboard or wide skateboard is very suitable for transition riding in a skate ramp or skate bowl. Other skaters prefer to do technical tricks with narrower skateboard decks .

When should I replace my skateboard deck?

A skateboard deck is made of 7 layers of pressed maple wood. That is simply the best material. Unfortunately, wood does not last forever. Over time, your skateboard deck will wear out. There could be a few reasons for this:

• Moisture is a culprit for your skateboard. This causes your deck to quickly lose its "pop" or jumping power. You can hear this from the dull sound when you tap your skateboard on the ground. A dull sound indicates moisture damage. That is why it is best to avoid skating in the rain.

• Chips are also an indication that your skateboard deck needs to be replaced. We speak of a chipped deck when pieces of wood come loose at the nose & tail. This happens when your skateboard deck collides with something at speed, and that is completely normal when trying new skateboard tricks. Chips can even cause splinters and cuts in some cases.

• Razor tail occurs when you brake frequently on the tail of your skateboard. This can cause the tail to become sharp and even square. This has a negative effect on your skating, including loss of pop and less control. At such a moment, a new skateboard is in order.

• A cracked or broken skateboard deck needs to be replaced immediately. A crack in your skateboard immediately weakens the structure and is the beginning of the end. If you continue skating with this, your skateboard can break.
